Sheffield Wednesday Fans Divided After 1867 Group Protest Against…..

Sheffield Wednesday fans were divided at the weekend as 100 hardy souls decided to march through Hillsborough Park in protest of Dejphon Chansiri. The protesters said their piece before kick-off as Wednesday defeated QPR 2-1 at Hillsborough.

The protesting group are known as The 1867 Group and had decided that this fixture would be the one where something would be done. Intriguingly, the Owls have now claimed 10 points from their last five games and things are looking up once again.

Wednesday won the game 2-1 on Saturday. The three points were secured in dramatic circumstances, with Bailey Cadamarteri scoring four minutes from time and Anthony Musaba firing home four minutes into stoppage time.

It has to be said that the protests did go by without any unsavoury incident. As Alex Miller points out in The Star, that would go against the mission statement that The 1867 Group had briefed in their call to action previously.

Whilst 100 fans did protest against Chansiri before Saturday’s game, several other supporters chose not to. Instead, they made the walk through the park peacefully ahead of an important Championship fixture.

Miller is the man with his finger on the pulse of all things Wednesday. He claims that some supporters actually approached The Star to protest against the protest. One even went as far as calling it ‘an embarrassment to the club’ and it’s fair to say he didn’t agree with it.

Chansiri can win Wednesday fans over in January
The 1867 Group have good intentions and it’s hard to knock them. Ultimately, any fans have the right to voice their opinion on club matters and these feel strongly against how Chansiri runs the football club.

However, with the January transfer window on the horizon, the group should perhaps be careful not to irritate the owner too much. After all, this is the man who earlier this season claimed he would be putting no further funding into the football club.

It’s been claimed in the press recently that Chansiri is now willing to pay up to £30,000-a-week in wages to sign a striker on loan in January. Now, The 1867 Group must be careful that they don’t persuade Chansiri to go against that and close his chequebook.
