Silva issues update on Fulham star’s future amid contract stalemate

Marco Silva ‘not worried’ about Tosin Adarabioyo’s future at Fulham despite contract stalemate
Monaco were among the clubs pushing to sign the centre-back in the summer

Marco Silva insists he is “not worried” that Tosin Adarabioyo might leave in January, despite Fulham’s failure to convince the defender to sign a new contract on three separate occasions.

Adarabioyo is out of contract next summer, and Fulham remain keen to keep the 26-year-old.

AS Monaco had several bids for Adarabioyo worth up to £8.5million rejected on transfer deadline day this summer, while Tottenham were also monitoring his situation.

The defender has missed much of this season due to a groin injury, but has started in Fulham’s last two Premier League matches. Those games, 5-0 wins over Nottingham Forest and West Ham, were Adarabioyo’s first starts of the campaign.

When the January transfer window opens, Adarabioyo is likely to attract interest once again.

“I tried to sort it [his contract] out two years ago”, said Silva, whose side visit Newcastle on Saturday.

“Last season I did the same — and I did the same at the beginning of this season. He’s a really good central defender. It’s something that the club tried. They are probably still trying now.

“I’m not worried. I’m enjoying working with my players, and if they are available for me, I’m trying to get the best out of them.”

Adarabioyo graduated from the Manchester City academy, and represented England at youth level until 2015.
