Jimmy Jeggo to replace suspended Joe Newell as Hibs boss Nick Montgomery hails ‘real team player’
The Hibees boss is without his key midfielder due to a one-match suspension but his team-mate has been ‘champing at the bit’ for his big chance and that will arrive in Perth.
Nick Montgomery has confirmed Jimmy Jeggo will start in place of Joe Newell in the clash with St Johnstone at McDiarmid Park.
The Hibees boss is without his key midfielder due to a one-match suspension but his team-mate has been ‘champing at the bit’ for his big chance and that will arrive in Perth. His Easter Road gaffer has hailed him for being ‘patient, a real team player, reliable and making an impact when brought on’ and says this is a big opportunity to lay a marker.
Newell’s suspension will offer the chance of a rest and refresh for the man described as a ‘really important’ member of the first-team. The Hibees are fourth in the standings ahead of today’s games and could finish the afternoon in third spot – depending on results elsewhere with St Mirren currently occupying that position and one point ahead.
Speaking ahead of facing Craig Levein’s Saints, Montgomery said: “Joe’s been outstanding, has captained us on occasion and has taken a few big knocks as well. He was struggling a little bit. The suspension has given us time to give him a rest and refresh him because he’s a really important member of the team.
“Jimmy Jeggo has been champing at the bit and has been unfortunate not to be in the team because of his performances when I first came in, until he got that little injury, then Dylan Levitt came in with Joe and we had some good results.
“Jimmy has been patient, he’s a real team player, he’s reliable and has made an impact when coming on. It’s a smooth transition in him replacing Joe. It’s a good opportunity for him and Dylan to work on the partnership they’ve been building in training.”
The capital boss also had special words of praise for the Hibs faithful as they hit the road for a third consecutive away day. 1200 fans are expected to rock up at McDiarmid Park with the boss admitting the support doesn’t go unnoticed.
He is aware it is not easy and how expensive this time of year can be and he hopes that he can repay that loyalty and faith with a big performance and three points.
He added: “I can’t thank the supporters enough. Most weeks I mention the fans and the support they give us away from home. Their support doesn’t go unnoticed.
“We know it’s not easy and it’s expensive this time of year, but that’s why we hope we can put in the effort and performances to repay them for their faith.
“We massively appreciate them and hope we can give another good account of ourselves this weekend. I’m looking forward to hearing them this weekend.”
