Sunderland has “commenced the search” for a new manager – ‘He is up for the job’…

On Thursday, Aftonbladet reported that Sunderland conducted an interview with Jimmy Thelin, the manager of IF Elfsborg, earlier this week.

The 45-year-old reportedly met with some officials from the English club. Göteborgs-Posten supported this claim, stating that Thelin is open to the coaching assignment at Sunderland.

Sunderland recently parted ways with Tony Mowbray, and despite initially considering Stade de Reims manager Will Still and Thelin’s compatriot, Kim Hellberg, the former was appointed by Hammarby IF, and Still expressed his desire to continue with the Ligue 1 side.

As a result, the focus has now shifted to Thelin, with reports indicating that Sunderland has initiated a pursuit to bring him to the Stadium of Light. Interestingly, Thelin is not only drawing interest from the Championship side but is also a contender for the position of the next Sweden coach. Reports suggest that he met with the Swedish football association on Wednesday.

Andrea Möllerberg, the Swedish FA’s general secretary, mentioned that there are several candidates being considered for the national team job. She stated, “Right now, we have nothing more to say than that we continue to check our long list against the requirements profile,” in response to the ongoing selection process.

Addressing the rumors, Elfsborg director Stefan Andreasson emphasized that they have no further comments except to acknowledge Thelin as a highly skilled coach, expressing pride in having him at Elfsborg.
