Sheffield Wednesday host QPR tomorrow, and the Owls will need to find a method to keep these two in form players quiet.
This weekend’s Championship match between Sheffield Wednesday and QPR takes place at Hillsborough.
Many anticipated both Wednesday and QPR to struggle this season, but few would have imagined that both teams would be doing so on the back of decent spells of form.
The Owls’ three-game unbeaten run came to an end at Norwich City in midweek, but they look revitalized under Danny Rohl, with Marti Cifuentes making a significant impression since replacing Gareth Ainsworth in West London.
The R’s are now unbeaten in four games, winning three of them to move within a point of safety.
Tomorrow’s game promises to be tactical and competitive, and two QPR players may be on Rohl’s mind more than most.
Ilias Chair and Chris Willock running the show for QPR
Both Ilias Chair and Chris Willock have witnessed an improvement in form and goals since Cifuentes joined at QPR.
Ainsworth’s football was strangling the pair’s ability, but Cifuentes’ more optimistic and fluid techniques have seen the two thrive once more, notably Willock, who has now scored three goals in his previous four games.
Chair is a major fan at QPR and a guy who can really hurt teams in the Championship; he’s more of a no.10 who can deliver killer passes and score himself, whilst Willock is a broader player who likes to cut in and run at defenders.
Cifuentes has already sang their praises, calling them as ‘vital’ players with the ‘X factor’.
How can Sheffield Wednesday contain them tomorrow?
Willock is expected to start on the left side tomorrow, with Chair in the no.10 position.
Will Vaulks could be assigned to deal with Chair, and given the Welshman’s recent form, Chair could be in for a difficult afternoon.
Willock, on the other hand, may have a little more leeway.
Dominic Iorfa’s injury has revealed a slight issue at right back. Liam Palmer has started the last two games but has failed to impress, and Rohl may make a change there tomorrow, with Pol Valentin a possible alternative.
In what may be a pivotal duel in tomorrow’s game, Valentin or Palmer will face a difficult assignment in dealing with the dynamic Willock.
But if Wednesday can keep the pair at bay and play some of their own football, the Owls might come out on top in what is a game that anyone can win tomorrow.
