Sheffield Wednesday have suffered another injury blow to one of their strikers.
The Owls had already lost Mallik Wilks until the new year and brought Bailey Cadamarteri in to replace him.
Danny Rohl looked set for options up front as they travelled to Norwich City, with Michael Smith having made his first appearance in over a month against Stoke.
The striker featured from the bench in the weekend’s win; however, he was left out of the squad all together against the Canaries.
Danny Rohl has now confirmed that Smith is back on the treatment table after suffering a setback.
“He has a small injury in the same area as before,” Rohl told The Star.
“It’s a pity and we will have to have a look at what we can do in the next few days. That is why he was not involved with us today.”
Despite not playing for over a month, Michael Smith is still Sheffield Wednesday’s joint top goalscorer with only three goals. The 32-year-old also netted 18 goals and provided seven assists in League One last season.
In comparison, the three strikers aside from Bailey Cadamarteri and Smith have scored a combined goal in 32 appearances this season.
Can Michael Smith provide the goals this season?
With Cadamarteri proving to be the only threat in that striker position at the moment, Sheffield Wednesday could have really done with a fit and available Smith.
His teenage teammate has been excellent since coming into the team, but we can’t expect him to lead the line every single game and perform at the level that the more experienced players can.
Smith and Cadamarteri could be the key to unlocking goals for the Owls, so we are just going to have to hope the former Rotherham United man isn’t out of action for much longer.
A’small’ injury could suggest only a short spell on the sidelines, while Cadamarteri will have to continue doing what he has to do in the mean time, especially in a huge six-pointer against QPR this weekend.
The Yorkshire outfit currently sits seven points behind QPR and could take a huge leap towards safety if they can claim a victory at Hillsborough.
