JAMIE CARRAGHER BLASTS ARSENAL’S KEY MAN FOR HIS ACTIONS TOWARDS ASTON VILLA’S WORLD CUP WINNER

Aston Villa and Argentina star Emiliano Martinez is officially the best goalkeeper in the world, as proven by him winning the Yashin Trophy in October.

But as his former club, Arsenal, know very well. One of the main reasons behind his success is the fact that he can be a wind-up merchant of the highest order. He is as confident as they come and he backs it up.

The 31-year-old proved at the Qatar World Cup that he will do everything to win and he is now trying to lead Unai Emery’s Aston Villa to glory.

As Arsenal suffered a 1-0 defeat at Villa Park on Saturday, in the dying moments of the game, Kai Havertz was involved in a heated moment with the shot-stopper.

After a ball was played over the top, Emiliano Martinez rushed to collect the ball, before Kai Havertz made late contact with the Villa man and he wasn’t impressed.

Jamie Carragher labelled that moment from Arsenal’s summer signing as ‘daft’ and how he is just playing into the books of his counterpart, as he told Sky Sports Premier League (09/12/23 at 7:20 pm).

The former Liverpool defender was right because it just ran down the clock further and allowed the home team to push towards a historic 15th Premier League home win in a row.

“It’s daft, the situation Arsenal find themselves in the game,” said Carragher. “You know if anyone is going to make the most of it, then it’s that man, Emi Martinez.

“They go head-to-head. He knows what he is doing. It’s daft from Havertz, you are just wasting time for your own team. Just get back into position and get on with the game.”

Emiliano Martinez at Aston Villa after Arsenal exit
In 2020, with Villa rebuilding after promotion to the Premier League, they knocked on Arsenal’s door and signed Martinez.

It was a move that would transform his career and make him a fan favourite at Villa Park and in his home country of Argentina.

At the time, he didn’t even have a single international cap to his name. But three years later, he was one of the stars of the show and won the World Cup, not forgetting his Copa America win.

The journey Martinez has been on with Argentina and at Villa has been incredible, with the story of the latter still having the ability to take even more amazing heights.
