‘I’ve Always Said’: Tony Adams Makes His Feelings Known After Aston Villa Beat Arsenal Tonight
Arsenal legend Tony Adams has delivered his post-match verdict after the Gunners lost at Aston Villa in the Premier League.
The Highbury icon, speaking to Premier League Productions, admitted the Villans delivered a “great performance” against a Gunners side that “score for fun”.
Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal fell to a 1-0 defeat at the hands of Unai Emery’s Villans in Saturday’s 5:30pm kickoff.
Villa took the lead against Arsenal after just seven minutes, hitting the ground running and getting their just rewards early on.
Leon Bailey got the better of Gabriel Magalhaes and burst into the box before squaring the ball for John McGinn.
The Villa captain skilfully took the ball on the turn and fired past David Raya to trigger wild celebrations in the home stands.
Arsenal tried hard to restore parity at the very least, but they couldn’t get past a well-drilled Villans backline.
The hosts had Diego Carlos to thank for two goal-line clearances, while a controversial VAR decision late on also kept the scoreline the same.
Kai Havertz’s late leveller was ruled out after referee Jarred Gillett deemed the ball to have brushed the midfielder’s hand just before he converted from close range.
‘Villa are the Arsenal of the midlands’
Adams, speaking on Premier League Productions, focused on Villa’s victory instead of talking about the Gunners losing in controversial fashion.
“Villa Park is rocking,” Adams said, as per the Premier League website (9/12/23, 19:40). “I’ve always said that Villa are the Arsenal of the midlands. Look at the fans, they are loving it.
“That clean sheet is worth being excited about, setting your stall out against a side that score for fun. Great defence, a great screen in front of them, a great performance.”
Villa are next in action against Zrinjski in the Europa Conference League on Thursday, while Arsenal are away to PSV Eindhoven in the Champions League on Wednesday.
