Rangers In Talk To Land 27 Years Old In January After Nottingham Forest Ban Him From Training Ground

Rangers could look to sign Nottingham Forest ace Scott McKenna in January after he was exiled from the squad, according to the Daily Record.

The central defender has been banned from training with the first-team at the City Ground and made available for transfer in January according to reports (Daily Mail, 7 December).

 

And according to the Scottish news outlet (7 December), Rangers could look to bring him in to cure their left centre-back issues although Philippe Clement is yet to decide if it’s an area of the team he wants to strengthen.

“As if often the case for players of this calibre, both sides of the Old Firm could potentially be in the race,” they wrote.

“Michael Beale wanted a left centre back but didn’t manage to get one in at the end of the summer window and while it remains to be seen if it’s an area Philippe Clement wants to target, it certainly could be.

 

“Ben Davies hasn’t always convinced and the rest of Gers’ centre backs are right footed so the signing of McKenna could bring some balance.

“The Ibrox side have been criticised for ignoring Scottish talent so this could be a first step in rectifying that.”

 

Strengthen

Central defence is not a position where we are light on numbers, but you can make the case that we are light on quality.

 

Connor Goldson is still the first-choice option on the right hand side, while all of Ben Davies, John Souttar and Leon Balogun are competing to start alongside him. Leon King is also an option, although he’s yet to feature under Clement since his arrival.

But the fact that veteran Balogun is currently the man who is leading the race to start regularly at centre-back tells you that we need to strengthen that area of the pitch, and McKenna could be a solid option.

Premier League wages are always a difficult thing to compete with but if Forest are so determined to get rid of him then there is something that we could potentially try to exploit.

 

It should also be mentioned that a certain Ross Wilson is in charge of transfers at Forest, which could give us a little headstart over the competition for his signature.
