Following Nathan Jones’ decision to decline the position, Rotherham United now has two main contenders for their vacant managerial position, according to The Yorkshire Post.
Matt Taylor, the Millers’ boss, was let go last month after 13 months on the job. The now-Bristol Rovers manager was fired while the club was in 22nd place in the championship. Rotherham United are still in the relegation zone, seven points adrift of safety, after an uninspiring 0-0 draw away at Wayne Rooney’s Birmingham City on Saturday.
However, there may be some positive news on the horizon for the South Yorkshire outfit. It is being reported that there are now two leading contenders for the role, one of whom is currently in the EFL. Steve Evans and Leam Richardson are both tipped to be the next managers at the AESSEAL New York Stadium.
Steve Evans had a very successful period with the Millers between 2012 and 2015, which saw him earn two promotions and secure the club in the second tier. However, last month, he rubbished any reports that linked him with the role. Evans stated that he was not ‘aware of anything’ linking him to a potential return.
Rotherham United have been without a manager since sacking Matt Taylor in mid-November but there has been no limit to the rumors of who will take over.
Of course, we are now in December and still without a permanent man.
Sky Sports have today said that the Millers are down to two candidates, one of those being former Accrington Stanley and Wigan Athletic Manager Leam Richardson, who has been out of management just under fourteen months.
Earlier this week, it was reported in various media outlets that, despite Nathan Jones being at the game at Birmingham on Saturday, he has turned down the Millers—whether he was actually interviewed and/or offered the job, we really don’t know.
Although Sky Sports named one of the two, they think our list is down too; they haven’t said who the other one is. So many managers have recently been shown the door that there are plenty of names out there but will any become the next Millers manager?
And will we have someone in place for Saturday’s visit to Swansea City? And will it be someone the fans were expecting?
I don’t know the answer to any of those questions but there are rumours that we could have someone in tomorrow. .
. . . but we heard that one last week.
