REPORT: Sunderland are reportedly looking for a former PNE academy coach to replace Tony Mowbray.

Sunderland are now interested in appointing former Preston North End youth coach Will Still as the replacement for Tony Mowbray.

We have now seen a couple of managerial sackings in the Championship this week.

Swansea City boss Michael Duff was axed on Monday, with Tony Mowbray next to go just hours later.

The busy festive period is coming up, and teams are making changes with no midweek fixtures this week.

Sunderland sacking Mowbray was something of a surprise, but the Black Cats could now make an ambitious move.

Will still be wanted by Sunderland

Teamtalk claim that Sunderland are now targeting Ipswich Town’s Kieran McKenna and Reims boss Will Still to replace Mowbray.

Whether they actually get anywhere with those pursuits remains to be seen, but we could see them still returning to England.

The Belgian has been on a quite remarkable journey, and it all started at Preston North End.

He still coaches PNE’s Under-14’s after enrolling in a coaching course at Myerscough College, moving over from his native Belgium.

He still stated last year that his time at North End was ‘fantastic’, setting him on a quite incredible path.

The 31-year-old moved on to Sint-Truiden, Standard Liege, Lierse, and Beerschot back in Belgium, managing just 24 games before his big break came.

I still served as Oscar Garcia’s assistant at Reims but ended up landing the top job there last year after impressing in caretaker charge.

Now fifth in Ligue 1, he still continues to work wonders, and a move to England, where both of his parents are from, will surely come at some point.

Sunderland are now looking into an ambitious move for Still, meaning we could see him actually manage against PNE when the two sides meet on New Year’s Day.

That would be quite the story given Still’s journey, and Sunderland will hope to be able to tempt him over to Wearside this month.
