That’s according to German outlet Bild who claim boss Thomas Tuchel has prioritised signing a new central defender to cover the gaps in defence. The recent knee injury to Matthijs De Ligt has only increased that problem.

The German giants are claimed to see Lenglet as a player who will solve the problem in defence. The 28-year-old is yet to start a Premier League game under Unai Emery since joining on loan from Barcelona in the summer.

The report adds that Lenglet is “on the list” and a transfer in the region of €10million is said to be “quite realistic.” However, Barca would have the last say as they hold the option to recall him back in January.

Lenglet was bought in following the long-term injury sustained by Tyrone Mings. However, the former Tottenham man has so far only made five appearances for Villa, all in the Conference League.

Last month, the Spanish giants were said to be “seriously concerned” over the player’s situation at Villa Park. Barca are believed to be concerned his valued will decrease due to the lack of game time, though talks are not believed to have taken place with Villa over cutting his Villa loan short.
