£12.8m star dropped as Toti Gomes changes role – Wolves perfect predicted XI v Burnley
Here’s the Wolves lineup we predict will face Burnley in the Premier League – including a decision for Pablo Sarabia.

Wolves play their first midweek game of the 2023/24 Premier League season as they host Burnley at Molineux on Tuesday night.

Gary O’Neil’s side suffered a narrow defeat to title-chasing Arsenal at the Emirates on Saturday, despite being without several key players. Bukayo Saka and Martin Odeegard gave the Gunners a two-goal lead inside 13 minutes and ultimately Matheus Cunha’s goal four minutes from time was only a consolation, rather than the start of the comeback.

Wolves had to contend with the suspensions of Mario Lemina and Joao Gomes going into the game, and Wolves were also dealt a blow mid-game when Jose Sa was forced off with a back spam, which saw Dan Bentley replace him between the sticks. The belief for Tuesday’s game is that it’s nothing serious and Sa should be able to retain his place, but there’s a few decisions to be made.

Jean Ricner-Bellegarde, Tommy Doyle and Boubacar Traore all started at the weekend as Wolves packed the midfield to try and deal with Arsenal but with two midfielders returning, does O’Neil stick or twist? The bench was fairly youthful with Tawanda Chirewa, Matthew Whittingham and Justin Huber all compementing the nine options that O’Neil had at his disposal.

Wolves have a match against Nottingham Forest on Saturday to think about too, and so changes should be in the offing to keep the team fresh for the double-game week. Burnley and Nottingham Forest are Wolves relegation rivals, and so maximum points against those two would go a long way towards creating a gap between themselves and the drop zone.

Here are the 11 players we think will start on Tuesday, along with the nine substitutes that could be used.

1. GK: Jose Sa

Subbed off at the weekend with a back spasm injury. Gary O’Neil envisages that he’ll be fine however, and so he should keep his place.

2. CB – Max Kilman
One of the first names on the team sheet. The captain should start on the right-hand side of defence.

3. CB – Craig Dawson

Been one of the steady eddies in the team. His presence is key in the heart of that Wolves back line.

4. CB: Santiago Bueno
He’s made just one Premier League start this season, but that came recently against Fulham. He was an unused substitute against Arsenal, however a recall could be on the cards. Photo: Getty Images
