Jamie Carragher sends ‘tough’ Aston Villa message to Man City
The latest Aston Villa news as Unai Emery’s men host the current Premier League champions at Villa Park on Wednesday night.
Former Premier League defender turned pundit Jamie Carragher has said that the game against Aston Villa has just got even tougher for Manchester City after a double blow.
Villa host last season’s treble winners at Villa Park on Wednesday night (8.15pm kick-off) as they look to extend their impressive run at their home ground. Both teams drew at the weekend, with Villa sharing the points with Bournemouth and Man City playing out an exciting 3-3 draw with Tottenham.
It was during that game against Tottenham where both Rodri and Jack Grealish picked up their fifth yellow cards of the season, meaning that they now face an automatic one-match ban that comes into effect against Villa. Rodri was booked in the first half after a late tackle while Grealish was shown yellow for a handball in the second half.

Grealish has played a total of just three minutes back at his former stomping ground after coming on as a late substitute in January 2021. He was an unused substitute for last season’s Premier League encounter.
Rodri, meanwhile, has proved himself to be a key player for Pep Guardiola’s team this season. City’s only two Premier League losses so far this season came as the midfielder served a two-match suspension after being sent off against Nottingham Forest.
Speaking on Sky Sports after the game, Carragher outlined the challenge that faces the current Premier League champions in just a couple of days. “You know how tough of a game Aston Villa is even with a full team,” he said. “Now Rodri and Jack Grealish are out.”
Unai Emery’s men have won all ten of their home games in the Premier League and Europa Conference League so far this season. They are currently just one point behind Man City in the table, meaning a win on Wednesday would take them above Guardiola’s men.
