Alan Shearer turns air blue in response to Gary Lineker about Sunderland vs Newcastle United
Sunderland and Newcastle United are set to reignited the rivalry which has been put on ice since March 2016
Alan Shearer has ordered BBC bosses to broadcast Sunderland vs Newcastle United instead of Arsenal vs Liverpool when the FA Cup TV schedule is announced. Football fans across the region were stunned yesterday when the bitter North East rivals were drawn against each other in the third round.
The Tyne-Wear derby has not been contested since March 2016 when Aleksandar Mitrovic rescued a late point for Newcastle at St James’ Park. That result ended a run of six straight defeats in the fixture for the Magpies.
A mixture of anxiety and excitement is set to sweep across Tyneside and Wearside as the two camps prepare to battle it out at the Stadium of Light. Toon legend Shearer is no stranger to the derby, having scored his last professional goal against the Black Cats in April 2006.

As soon as the draw was made Shearer, like everyone, was already planning for the big day. The BBC pundit revealed he has asked the top brass to prioritise the Tyne-Wear derby over other ties in the round.
“I’ve already sent a text off asking for tickets!” Shearer told The Rest Is Football podcast. “What a draw, it was brilliant, wasn’t it? Arsenal vs Liverpool and Sunderland vs Newcastle. Woah, amazing! Something to look forward to.
“I’ve already been onto the guys (BBC bosses). We both know Arsenal and Liverpool are going to play reserve sides, so we might as well do Sunderland vs Newcastle! We know nobody can afford to be beaten and won’t put reserve sides out.”
Co-host Gary Lineker joked about wanting Arsenal vs Liverpool while poking fun at the North East weather. He said: “I told them we should do Arsenal vs Liverpool because it’s very cold up north.
This provoked an expletive response from Shearer, who said: “Oh **** off. We don’t want that!”
