Unai Emery is hopeful Ollie Watkins will be available to face Bournemouth on Sunday after he missed Aston Villa’s win over Legia Warsaw.

The striker picked up an injury in training on Wednesday and was subsequently not risked against Legia. He has been in fine form this season having scored seven goals and recorded seven assists in 13 Premier League matches.

Watkins earned a recall to the England squad earlier this year and was named in the Three Lions squad for the October and November internationals. Asked about his injury after Villa’s 2-1 win over Legia on Thursday, Emery claimed the injury he suffered was minor.

“He was not available because it was 50 per cent training yesterday and he felt something,” Emery said. “I think it’s not important but we decided not to take a risk. Secondly, we want to get minutes with Jhon Duran.”
