Latest Nottingham Forest news: Reds loanee Gustavo Scarpa is subject to transfer interest ahead of January window
Gustavo Scarpa’s future at Nottingham Forest is still up in the air as January approaches.
The Brazilian is on loan at Olympiacos, another Evangelos Marinakis-owned club, but has struggled for regular playing time. After falling down the pecking order at City Ground, he has been linked with a return to his homeland for some time.
Flamengo, Fluminense, and his former club, Palmeiras, have all been mentioned as potential suitors for the 29-year-old. Another name has now been added to the list.
Scarpa has emerged as a “main” target for Internacional as the transfer window approaches, according to Brazilian media outlet Globo. However, it appears that there may be a stumbling block to any potential deal.
The club has been trying to persuade the midfielder “to accept the offer” for several weeks, according to reports. Scarpa, on the other hand, is said to want to stay in Europe.
As a result, Atletico Mineiro dropped their interest in the player. Previous reports claimed that a bid of 4.5–5 million euros (£3.8–4.3 million) had been made, but the club has now “given up” on trying to sign Scarpa.
Scarpa has been a Forest player for less than 12 months, having signed in the last January window. Injuries and off-field issues hampered him somewhat last term, and he managed just six Premier League appearances.
Amid rumours about his future in recent months, conflicting reports have emerged about whether he would be happy to return to Brazil. He has featured seven times in the league for the Olympiacos, with three of those appearances coming as part of the starting XI.
