PRIOR Matt Taylor, the manager of Rotherham United, will take over as Bristol Rovers’ manager in League One, less than three weeks after the Millers fired him.
Joey Barton’s full-time replacement is anticipated to be Taylor, who was fired from the Millers in mid-November after barely over a year of leadership.
Since Barton left the Rovers at the end of last month, Andy Mangan has taken over as interim manager. Under his direction, Rovers have won four games, drawn two, and lost just one.
Rovers are nine points outside the play-off spots as of right now in the League One standings, in 11th place. This weekend, the West Country team plays in the FA Cup against Crewe Alexandra of League Two.
Several names had been considered by the Rovers board, including former Leeds United, Sheffield Wednesday, and Middlesbrough boss Garry Monk, ex-Leeds number two Karl Robinson, and caretaker manager Andy Mangan.
Taylor played in the west for Exeter City, Cheltenham Town, Team Bath, and Bath City, while also managing Exeter City.
Prior to Saturday’s Championship matchup with Birmingham City, he will handle pre-match media duties. He has led the team in the last two games against Leeds United and Hull City.
This week, the Millers have been interviewing candidates for their own open position; one such candidate is Nathan Jones, the former manager of Southampton, Stoke, and Luton.
Other candidates that have been considered are Leam Richardson and Gary Rowett.
