AC Milan are preparing to launch a loan bid for forgotten Arsenal ace Jakub Kiwior, with Rosonerri plunged into a defensive injury crisis, Calciomecato reports.
Arsenal forked out €25 million to sign the Polish defender from Spezia in January, but he has struggled for first-team minutes, racking up just 182 minutes of Premier League football.
With just two starts in his four Premier League games thus far, Kiwior has been forced to settle for a regular spot on the bench, sparking speculation of a temporary exit.
The 23-year-old was a target for Milan during the summer window of 2022 but ended up remaining at Spezia before joining the Premier League runners-up in the winter market.
However, he remains a defender highly regarded by the Milan hierarchy, who are familiar with his defensive capabilities having watched him excel at Spezia.
Given his struggles at the Emirates Stadium, Kiwior could be tempted to return to the Italian top flight, but Arsenal will undoubtedly be reluctant to sanction a mid-season exit.
While he has barely kicked a ball for Mikel Arteta’s side, cutting him loose, albeit temporarily, would leave the Gunners light on defensive options with Jurrien Timber still sidelined.
Talks of a permanent exit just one year after his arrival are certainly off the table, but it remains to be seen if Arsenal will listen to Milan’s loan proposal.
The seven-time Champions League winners have been ripped apart with defensive injury problems, with Malick Thiaw the latest to join an extensive list of absentees.
The German pulled up in the 53rd minute of Milan’s 3-1 Champions League defeat to Borussia Dortmund, forcing Stefano Pioli to deploy Rade Krunic at the heart of defence.
With Simon Kjer, Marco Pellegrino, and Mattia Caldara also sidelined, Pioli could turn to 18-year-old academy defender Jan-Carlo Simic to fill the gap for the upcoming Serie A fixture with Frosinone.
However, Milan have already begun plans to bolster their defensive options in the January market and have Kiwior on their radar.
