Garry Cook joins Birmingham City following Wayne Rooney’s challenging beginning…

Wayne Rooney’s challenging managerial debut is discussed by Garry Cook in the most recent Birmingham City news from BirminghamLive.

Birmingham City may have to suffer while Wayne Rooney employs the promotion-winning playmaking approach that Knighthead is so passionate about, according to Garry Cook.

Last month, Knighthead made the risky choice to fire John Eustace and bring in 38-year-old serial winner Rooney in his place. The owners have put Rooney in charge of bringing the Blues back to the Premier League and turning the team into a possession-based force in the Championship.

Although Rooney’s first season as Blues manager hasn’t been perfect, he did win his first game in charge against Sheffield Wednesday the other night. Cook continues to support a choice made with the long term in mind.

“We’re in it for the long run, but making changes in the football department garners more attention,” he stated. Since this isn’t a brief phrase, let’s see if we can’t win the next three games.

“How do we build a sustainable football club for the future that can compete with the very best and that we believe in and are committed to? And we’re fully backing ourselves that we have the right mix.

“It’s a little painful for a while. It’s bound to be. But it’s a little painful taking over a football club that’s been abandoned for a while, until you get it right, and I know we will because I’ve done this before.”

Patience will be required from supporters and board members, but there is no doubt that promotion is the objective. Blues’ hierarchy is aligned with Rooney’s belief that the best way to get out of this league is by dominating the ball.
