Player who departed Nottingham Forest in June is sent off two minutes into his new club debut…

Nottingham Forest allowed Andre Ayew to leave the City Ground during the summer at the end of a short-term deal.

Over the weekend, the striker endured a nightmare debut for Le Havre in Ligue 1.

Ayew joined Forest in February, shortly after the mid-season transfer window had slammed shut.

He was added to the ranks as someone who Steve Cooper knew well, and Forest beat Everton to his signature.

Ayew endures nightmare debut
The 33-year-old had to wait patiently to get himself a new club after leaving Forest.

It was Le Havre who took a chance on Ayew, who left Forest in the summer, and he’s had to work hard on his fitness before making his debut.

He was named as a substitute for the weekend clash against Nantes, and he came off the bench in the 67th minute.

Just 120 seconds later, he was heading back to the dressing room after seeing red for a late challenge.

VARc ouldn’t save Ayew either. The tackle looked somewhat clumsy but not malicious; however, it wasn’t deemed a clear and obvious error by the referee.

Having not played since featuring for Forest last season, Ayew will have been desperate to get going at Le Havre.

Now, he will miss three games and will face a fight to get a regular place on the team.

Forest right to offload Ayew
The versatile forward looked way beyond his best years when he made 13 appearances for Forest.

He didn’t enjoy too many highlights and actually missed a late penalty against Tottenham.

It was easy to see why Cooper added Ayew to his Forest ranks, though.

Taiwo Awoniyi was out injured, leaving Chris Wood as the only real option to deputise for him.

Cooper managed to get a tune out of Ayew at Swansea, and clearly he felt he could make an impact at Forest too.

Things didn’t work out for him, but in truth, he was only ever viewed as a backup option at the City Ground.

Now, he will hope for a swansong with Le Havre, and he will be keen to move on from this debut from hell as quickly as possible.
