Sunderland will face Huddersfield Town at the Stadium of Light in the Championship on Wednesday.
Due to injury setbacks, Terriers manager Darren Moore had to alter his starting lineup for Saturday’s match against Southampton, leaving Huddersfield with just seven substitutes to choose from.
Due to a neck injury, goalkeeper Lee Nicholls was forced to withdraw from the team on Friday. Midfielder Ben Wiles and striker Danny Ward were also forced to withdraw due to hamstring injuries; they joined defender Josh Ruffels and forward Kyle Hudlin on the sidelines.
Despite the losses, Ben Jackson’s equalizer three minutes from time at the John Smith’s Stadium saw Huddersfield come back from a goal down to draw 1-1 with Southampton. After forward Kian Harratt was substituted in the first half due to what appeared to be a hamstring injury, that goal was scored.
Now that the Terriers are headed to Sunderland on Wednesday, Moore is looking for a more seamless build-up to the match at the Stadium of Light.
Speaking on the late withdrawals against Southampton, Moore remarked, “We had a massive shift in the pack within 24 hours to get that news.” “Going against the adversity to manage that was really difficult.”
After suffering setbacks due to injuries, Huddersfield did welcome back Josh Koroma and David Kasumu into their starting lineup, with Delano Burgzorg moving back to the bench. However, Jack Rudoni, Ollie Turton, and Patrick Jones were still sidelined by injuries.
“That’s why the result is a special result for us,” Moore added. “In terms of dealing with the adversity in terms of what we had to do with managing the players, that meant there were players that had to come in and players on the pitch that could only have a certain amount of minutes on the pitch.”
