Darren Moore offers positive Huddersfield Town update with duo back in contention for Southampton

Darren Moore is set to have two players back in his matchday squad this weekend

Darren Moore could be handed a timely injury boost for this weekend’s Championship clash with Southampton, with two players in line for a return.

The Terriers face the fourth-placed Saints at the John Smith’s Stadium in what will be another tough test, but Moore could have Danny Ward and David Kasumu available. Both players took part in a behind-closed-doors game against Premier League side Nottingham Forest during the international break, and could be set to feature today.

Goalkeeper Ward has not featured at all this season, with Lee Nicholls in between the posts, although he did play 45 minutes for Wales in an international friendly win over Gibraltar last month.

However, Kasumu’s return would be a big boost for Moore and Town. The 24-year-old midfielder has been restricted to just three Championship appearances this season, but made a welcome return to the bench against Hull City, and now could step up his recovery with a first-team appearance.

Moore also said Jack Rudoni and Delano Burgzorg are closing in on a return. The latter pair won’t be involved this weekend, but he is hopeful they could feature before the new year, with fixtures coming thick and fast.

“We’ll see, they are back in training,” said Moore, when asked whether Ward and Kasumu could feature against Southhampton. “The nice thing is both are back in training and involved in that game.”

On the longer-term injuries, Moore has been encouraged by Rudoni’s progress, and confirmed Burgzorg will play before the turn of the year.

“Jack is making sufficient strides going forward, but not quite ready yet,” he added. “We expect him to be available this year, for sure. Even though, we have got the block of games coming up, we expect him to be back. He’s making some wonderful strides.

“Long may that continue. Del will be definitely play this year. He will be back definitely back in really soon.”

Following today’s game with Southampton, the Terriers make the journey to the North East to face Tony Mowbray’s in-form Sunderland next Wednesday (November 29), before another away day, this time at Swansea City, a week today.

Home games with Bristol City (December 9) and Preston North End (December 12) and a trip to Millwall (December 16) complete a run of six games in 22 days.
