Huddersfield Town Ex-manager, plans to return to management after turning down Bradford City…

Ex-Lincoln City, Huddersfield Town and Portsmouth boss Danny Cowley has been out of work since leaving Fratton Park last January.

Danny Cowley, who gained “so much” experience from his stints at Portsmouth and Huddersfield Town, is preparing to return to management. Since departing Fratton Park in January of last year, Cowley has not had a job.

Though he oversaw the Terriers’ Championship survival in 2020, the 45-year-old believes he and his brother Nicky, who has served as his assistant in every prior management position, are eager to make the correct decision in their next move. In an interview with LiveScore, Cowley stated, “I believe the focus is now more on the larger project.

“My partner Nicky and I have had the good fortune to oversee eight of the top nine divisions, and we still hope to work in the highest division, the Premier League!

“For us, it’s just trying to work with good people; that’s where we’ve had success in the past. We just want to find owners and staff who want to work intelligently and go somewhere we think we can add value.

“Our stock was incredibly high when we left Lincoln in 2019, but we’ve learned so much at Huddersfield and Portsmouth since, two huge clubs with lofty ambitions. They’ve left us feeling really well-equipped for that next challenge whenever it comes.”

It is well documented that Cowley was in contention for the Bradford City job earlier this month. The former Lincoln City boss spoke to the League Two club about the possibility of succeeding Mark Hughes.

But Cowley pulled out of the running for the role, claiming it “wasn’t quite right at the time”. City eventually appointed Graham Alexander after Cowley ended his interest in the position.

“We spoke with Bradford,” admitted Cowley. “I think Bradford City is a brilliant club, incredibly well-supported

“When you speak to a club, I think you’re trying to understand where they are today and where they want to go.

“Then, once you know the starting point and the destination, you can then decide whether or not you’ve got the skill set to put those stepping stones in place.

“These decisions are huge, not just for your family but also for the football club. So, you have to make sure you have the right information to make a decision for the benefit of everyone. We just felt it wasn’t quite right at the time.”

It was widely reported that Cowley spurned the Bantams advances because of family reasons. However, the Essex-based tactician has stressed that the prospect of uprooting has never put him off a professional opportunity.

He said, “For us, we’ve always traveled in terms of football. We love the game, so location is not an issue for us. My daughter is only 14, but she’s already attended six schools. We decided as a family that we would move with the jobs, and that hasn’t scared us in the past.

“We just didn’t think Bradford was the right opportunity in this moment.”
