The Baggies are interested in one of League One’s top players, as are promotion rivals Sunderland and Ipswich Town.
According to an England international, West Brom may become automatic promotion candidates if they sign Peterborough United striker Kwame Poku.
Poku has six goals and six assists in League One this season, and he leads the division in assists. He’s under contract at London Road until 2025, and owner Darragh MacAnthony always makes sure that when selling players, the club gets the greatest possible price.
The Baggies haven’t paid a transfer fee since signing Nathaniel Chalobah in January, but a prospective takeover from US parties might mean money is available in January.
If a deal is finalized by then, England international Carlton Palmer believes that signing the 22-year-old will improve their chances of promotion.
“Poku has registered six goals and six assists so far this season for the League One outfit, and he is only 22 and can play through the middle and down either flank,” Palmer told Football League World.
“With Daryl Dike still struggling for consistent fitness and games, Carlos Corberan prefers players who are versatile and can play multiple positions.”
“I think Carlos is looking for other options should the proposed takeover take place, as he looks to strengthen his squad to push on for a play-off place or even automatic promotion.”

West Bromwich Albion are one of at least six Championship clubs linked to Poku. Teamtalk revealed earlier this week that West Brom, Sunderland, Millwall, Ipswich Town, Stoke City, and Bristol City are among the clubs keeping an eye on Poku.
However, one team can be ruled out of the race. However, according to Bristol Live, Poku is not currently being considered. The Robins are looking for attacking reinforcements after appointing new manager Liam Manning, but Poku isn’t one of them right now.
It removes one team from West Brom’s alleged chase of Poku, but there are still many obstacles to overcome if they are to come out on top in a six-team race.
