Ronald Koeman, the manager of the Netherlands, has acknowledged that he hasn’t decided between Brentford’s Mark Flekken and Brighton’s Bart Verbruggen, the goalkeeper.
Voetbal Primeur has reported that the Netherlands manager has been discussing with Rondo on Ziggo Sport about his country’s goalkeeping problems.
After losing Justin Bijlow to injury earlier this year, he hasn’t decided on a long-term goalie for his team.
Since then, Koeman has been selecting goalkeepers; during the most recent international break, he gave Brighton’s Verbruggen an opportunity to shine after initially selecting Brentford’s Flekken.
He certainly demonstrated that by playing well in both the 1-0 victory over Greece and the loss to France.
Right now, a lot of people think that Brighton’s goalkeeper is better than Brentford’s, especially in light of Flekken’s fairly subpar performances in his previous two international matches against Greece and the Republic of Ireland.
However, Koeman is adamant that no choice has been made and won’t be made until he consults with Patrick Lodewijks, the goalie coach.
“Jasper Cillessen was the goalie in the beginning,” he stated.
“We had Bijlow later. After Justin was hurt, we had Flekken and Verbruggen. I’m still undecided about who will start in goal versus Ireland.
“I don’t wait for training to begin as a coach. They all continue to play sports. I’ll discuss that with Patrick. I wouldn’t pick that individual if I didn’t feel the same way as him.
