The January transfer window is still quite a way off, but the Terriers squad needs new additions, with the manager already fairly clear on his wishlist even this far out.
The Terriers are anxiously awaiting their next chance to bolster a small roster, and manager Darren Moore says the team’s priorities are starting to become more obvious. The club has its sights set on the January transfer window.
Even before the injury crisis that limited Huddersfield Town to using just six replacements against Watford on Saturday afternoon, the club was in dire need of reinforcements. Luke Daley and Tom Iorpenda, two players from the B team who had never appeared in a senior match for the club, were among the six substitutes.
Moore hopes to get several first-teamers back in time to face Hull City next week, with Jonathan Hogg back from suspension, David Kasumu and Josh Koroma hoping to be close to returning from injury, and Kian Harratt hopefully able to come back after missing the weekend’s goalless draw for personal reasons.
However, various figures at Town, including owner Kevin Nagle and sporting director Mark Cartwright, have acknowledged since the summer that they would ideally have liked to have gotten more business done over the pre-season transfer window, and they are now eager to try and put that right in January.
Speaking before Saturday’s goalless draw with Watford, Moore was asked if the club already had a good sense of what they wanted from the transfer window and replied, “Yes, we have now. I think in terms of me being in the building, what is it? Six weeks now, I think things are evident and clear to me in terms of areas that we’ll look to strengthen, if it’s possible to strengthen those areas.
“You might make up your mind and say, ‘Yeah, we’re going to strengthen these areas’, but as you know, there’s so many different dynamics that can happen—but it won’t be for the sake of trying.”
Moore further acknowledged that he now has a better understanding of where his players strengths and weaknesses lie, having had the opportunity to look at nearly all of them on matchdays, whether through choice or being forced to select them through the kind of availability issues they had on Saturday.
“You have to try some things that have been kind of forced because of the situation and the circumstances, but in doing so, you develop a learning and an understanding,” he added. “You try some things that you want to try.”
In my opinion, that’s the most significant factor pertaining to our current situation and the choices we’ve had to make. We’ve had to essentially roll the dice and adjust our strategy when it comes to handling and controlling games.
However, when it comes to comprehending the group, naturally, after six or seven days, you hear from them that there’s a deeper comprehension when you work with the group, and you see them on the training ground.
