Alfie May, the striker for Charlton Athletic, has made the short list for League One Player of the Month for October.
Seven of the 11 goals the summer signing from Cheltenham Town has scored this season came in six games played last month.
May will face Conor Shaughnessy of Portsmouth, Jordan Gibson of Carlisle United, and Luke Leahy of Wycombe, a center back.
The winner will be declared early on Friday.
Shortly after joining the Addicks, May told our paper that he intended to surpass the 20-goal mark, having scored 22 in his final season at Cheltenham.
As May stated to the South London Press, “I want to go and hit 20-plus again.” I think I have more pressure to do that now. I am aware that strikers sometimes have poor runs. The finest thing I’ve done in the past two years, though, is probably a little self-serving or perceived differently by others, because every day when I get onto that field, I tell myself that I want to be the best player there.
“My mentality is that I’m going to be the best player in the next game if I’m not.”
