Reading FC Owner pays delinquent taxes in advance of a court date…

The Reading Chronicle has been informed that Reading owner Dai Yongge has settled the two past-due invoices with HMRC in order to keep the team from going to court next month.

With only 30 days allowed in a calendar year, the Royals were more than 80 days past due and faced penalties from the EFL for unpaid taxes.

The club was subject to a registration ban because it had fallen behind on its payments to HMRC for the months of September and October of 2023.

This resulted in the second winding-up petition of the season; the first one was resolved in June.

However, club insiders have told the Reading Chronicle that all outstanding taxes have been paid ahead of Reading’s most recent game against Bristol Rovers this evening.

Both the EFL’s penalties and the specific legal actions taken against Mr. Yongge are still pending.

The Chinese investor is now in negotiations with several parties regarding the sale of the football team; however, no company has been granted exclusivity as of yet.

Eight points outside of safety in League One, Reading is in last place.
