The latest Birmingham City news from BirminghamLive includes Frank Lampard’s attempt to sign Jude Bellingham.
During his initial tenure as the manager of Stamford Bridge, Frank Lampard disclosed that he attempted to lure Jude Bellingham to Chelsea.
Following his lone season with the Birmingham City first team at the age of sixteen, Bellingham was in high demand back in 2020. Prior to Bellingham choosing Borussia Dortmund, the biggest teams in the world were vying for his signature.
It was well known that Manchester United was interested in Bellingham; in fact, Bellingham met famed former manager Sir Alex Ferguson and was given a tour of their facilities. But he made the decision to relocate to Germany so that Dortmund might help him further.
For all of Lampard’s efforts, Chelsea was never a prominent participant in the competition for Bellingham. Bellingham was a target for Chelsea, according to Lampard, but the team’s management declined to pay him.
In an interview with the Obi One Podcast, Lampard stated, “I was desperate to bring Jude Bellingham in when I was managing at Chelsea.” But I was unable to convince anyone upstairs that spending £20 million on a person of his age (at the time) was a good idea.
Chelsea must now be lamenting their lack of foresight. The 20-year-old Bellingham, who was born in Stourbridge, is a star for Real Madrid and England. He just won the Kopa Trophy at the famous Ballon d’Or ceremony, which honors the world’s greatest under-21 player.
In his first 14 games for Real Madrid following his record-breaking £115 million summer signing, Bellingham has scored 13 goals.
