Wayne Rooney’s response  to links involving signing Josef Martinez for Birmingham City…

Rumors that Birmingham City is interested in signing MLS striker Josef Martinez in January have been refuted by manager Wayne Rooney of the team.

Rooney hasn’t been in charge of Birmingham for long, but already there is expectation that he will lead the Blues to victory in the Championship.

Birmingham jumped out to a 2-0 lead over Ipswich Town, and Rooney appeared poised to record his first three points as manager. But the Tractor Boys battled back to deny Rooney his first victory, securing a 2-2 draw.

In an effort to advance the team, the Birmingham administration hired the former manager of Derby County and DC United.

It’s anticipated that Rooney will receive support to help Birmingham advance during the upcoming January transfer window. Martinez is among the many names that have already been associated with the team as a result.

What’s new in Birmingham City’s pursuit of Josef Martinez?

Rooney spent time in the MLS as a player and a manager, so he is well-customized to the league and the players.

Martinez is a player who has been playing in the MLS for a while now, as he’s played for Atalanta United and most recently Inter Miami, alongside Lionel Messi.

Miami has announced that the Venezuelan will be leaving the club when his contract expires at the end of this year.

It has since been reported by Alan Nixon that Rooney is keen on bringing the forward to the UK, as he eyes him for Birmingham City.

Nixon goes on to add that Rooney is a huge fan of the Venezuelan, but there could be a few obstacles before a deal is agreed. Firstly, Premier League side Luton Town are also reportedly keen, as are Brazilian side Internacional.

Furthermore, Nixon also claims a lot could depend on the personal terms that Martinez will be looking for, as Birmingham is said to be weighing up their finances until they get some of their big earners out of the books.
