The latest Nottingham Forest transfer news as Steve Cooper’s Reds look ahead to January recruits
According to reports, Nottingham Forest is willing to spend £6 million to acquire Nino, a defender for Fluminense.
The 26-year-old has been linked to the Reds, and last week’s sources from Brazil indicated that negotiations were underway for a deal. The player was reportedly participating in the Copa Libertadores final this past weekend, which is why the specifics were being kept under wraps.
However, according to Brazilian media, Forest has “signalled” to Fluminense how much they are willing to pay to acquire the center back. Globo reports that the Reds have said they will “invest” 7 million euros (about £6 million) and “pay Nino’s termination fee” in order to recruit him.
The report states the Brazilian is “destined” for a switch to City Ground and has rejected better financial offers to make the move in January. It is expected he will see out the rest of his club’s season, which ends with the Club World Cup in December.
Fluminense is said to already have an agreement in place to retain 20 percent of Nino’s economic rights in a future sale. And they would receive 60 percent of any transfer fee, with 40 percent going to the defender’s previous club, Criciuma.
Nino was asked about Forest’s interest on Friday prior to the Copa Libertadores, which Fluminense won by beating Boca Juniors 2-1. He is quoted as saying, “I found out this morning. It’s not something I want to talk about at the moment because nothing other than tomorrow’s final interests me.”
The defender is believed to have expressed his “desire” to play in Europe, and his contract is set to expire at the end of 2024.Besiktas of Turkey and Al-Shabab of Saudi Arabia are rumored to have been interested in him, and according to Globo, Almeria promised to increase his pay.
The Reds’ roster, led by head coach Steve Cooper, already includes a sizeable number of Brazilian players. Danilo and Felipe signed in January, but defender Murillo and Chelsea loanee Andrey Santos signed in the summer. In the winter window, Gustavo Scarpa also connected with Forest; however, he is now on loan at Olympiacos.
