Ali Al Hamadi, a striker for AFC Wimbledon, is a target for Sunderland.
The Sunderland Echo reports that Sunderland deployed scouts to observe the 21-year-old.
However, other Championship teams such as Leeds United, Cardiff City, Hull City, Bristol City, and Stoke City are also rumored to be interested, so they are not the only ones.
The Iraqi international was linked to Coventry City, Barnsley, and Peterborough United in League One throughout the summer.
According to reports, Sunderland had already dispatched scouts to observe him during Wimbledon’s season-opening 0-0 draw with Barrow.
The League Two team’s repeated demands for a price higher than £1.2 million for their star striker are also mentioned.
Who is Ali Al Hamadi?
Al Hamadi is an Iraqi international who has represented his country on nine occasions.
He has been prolific for Wimbledon in League Two since his arrival from Wycombe Wanderers in January.
He scored ten goals in 19 appearances in the second half of last season, and this season he has four goals and five assists in 14 games.
It is well documented that Sunderland are in desperate need of a goal-scoring striker, with none of their recognized strikers scoring so far this season.
The last recognized striker to score for the Black Cats was Ross Stewart, who scored against Middlesbrough in January before his injury curtailed the rest of his season.
Since his departure to Southampton at the end of the summer transfer window, Sunderland have had plenty of problems up front, with winger Jack Clarke being the man scoring all the goals for Tony Mowbray’s side this season.
This season, Luis Semedo, Mason Burstow, and Nazariy Rusyn have all made an attempt to score, but they haven’t been successful thus far.
There would be a lot of pressure on Al Hamadi to start strong if he were to take over.
It is extremely doubtful that he would go two divisions higher because it would take time for him to adjust.
