JUST IN: The club just cannot afford to sign 29-year-old Nottingham Forest player to a permanent contract.

According to a reliable Brazilian newspaper, Palmeiras are unable to finance the signing of Nottingham Forest’s Gustavo Scarpa. Though he is now on loan at Olympiacos, the player finds it difficult to get consistent playing time.

Scarpa agreed to negotiations with Forest a few months prior to signing with the team in January 2023. He made the decision to finish the season in Brazil, where he won the Golden Ball as the best player in the division and assisted Palmeiras in winning the league.
The plan for Scarpa to join Forest didn’t work out. Despite receiving accolades from Ian Wright during a 2-0 victory over Leicester, he only made 10 appearances and did not contribute even one goal.

A journalist says Palmeiras can’t afford Scarpa
It was reported earlier this week that the £30,000-a-week that Scarpa earns at Forest has already put Sao Paulo off. Now, the club that saw the very best of him, Palmeiras, has similar concerns, it would seem.

UOL journalist Paulo Vinicius Coelho explained in his latest UOL piece: “The next question is: Does Scarpa want to come back?

I haven’t had that answer, but if you have a negotiation, from Palmeiras’ point of view, it’s more or less clear that the club can’t afford to make a heavy investment in a player who is going to be 30 next. To bring him back, spend big on a signing, but if it’s on loan, yes.”

Forest forward Scarpa could be set for limbo

It appears that the player’s ambition to rule all of Europe is going to come to an end. If Scarpa is unable to make an impact at Olympiacos more frequently following his Forest catastrophe, it appears that he will have difficulty finding another club.

He’s still given it his best shot. Scarpa’s ailments and unresolved personal matters hindered him at Forest. But when he went in the summer, there was no ill will, and he seemed like a good man.

Scarpa, the forward for Forest, should be able to resolve the issue. If he returns to Brazil, he should be allowed to fly again, and he deserves a team to take a risk on him.
