During matchweek 10, Serge Aurier, a defender for Nottingham Forest, won the most headers of any player in the Premier League. At the top of the standings, the captain was on par with Levi Colwill and Virgil van Dijk.
This season, Aurier has been a consistent member of the Forest squad. He has been fighting constantly to become fit after playing little football throughout the preseason, but he looked excellent over the weekend.
Forest suffered a defeat against Liverpool in their latest outing. They were thrashed 3-0, and Steve Cooper has been left with far more questions than answers as he strives for a winning formula.
Aurier stars during Forest defeat to Liverpool
The defender signed for Forest in the summer of 2022 after leaving Villarreal. He had just helped the club reach the semi-final of the Champions League, and last season he was largely brilliant.
Aurier was handed a new contract once survival had been secured by Forest. During 2023/24, he’s missed just one game, and given that he’s captained the team in the last five matches, he’s clearly important.
On Sunday, Aurier shone despite the defeat. The Other 14 showcased on Twitter that he won seven headers during his time on the pitch, and that proved the most of any Premier League player this weekend.
Aurier remains important to Steve Cooper
The Forest head coach needs his experienced performers to stand up and be counted now. Aurier is firmly within the leadership group at Forest, and he’s going to remain an important part of the team.
Gonzalo Montiel is now sidelined due to an injury he received while serving for his country. Consequently, it seems that Aurier will have plenty of opportunities to play for Forest while Cooper is waiting for him to return.
The 30-year-old is unwavering in his commitment to the forest cause. He has never failed the squad before, and on Sunday he proved it once more by showcasing his aerial skills during the match.
