Sunderland’s “unplayable” star is “playing in the wrong division” following contract warning from Tony Mowbray.

Jack Clarke has been on fire this season and is the current Championship top goalscorer.

Jack Clarke, a winger for Sunderland, is ‘unplayable’ and appears to be ‘playing in the wrong division’ right now.

Adrian Clarke, a former Arsenal player, believes Tony Mowbray is the “right match” for the young man who was previously a Tottenham Hotspur and Leeds United player at the Stadium of Light.

In all competitions last season, Clarke led Sunderland to the Championship play-offs with 11 goals and 14 assists, and he has continued to build on those outstanding stats this season.

With nine goals and one assist this season, the 22-year-old leads the Championship goalscoring rankings and has put Sunderland just outside of the play-off spots.

Having rebuffed interest from Premier League sides Burnley and Brentford in the summer, though, Clarke feels it is only a matter of time before he takes the step back up to the top flight.

“Jack Clarke is unplayable,” Clarke told the What the EFL?! Podcast

“When he’s in this form, he looks like a Premier League star. It’s someone who is playing in the wrong division. He had 14 dribbles in this game, six shots, I love the run and pass for the Dan Neil goal, scored himself of course.

“He’s a beautiful ball carrier and watching Tony Mowbray talk about him, ‘unlocking the mystery’, basically saying he’s a bit unique, one of a kind, so he needs to be managed carefully, but it’s the right match.”
“If we can keep playing like we are at the moment – really positive and on the front foot, having a lot of attacking moments in games – I think Jack will keep scoring,” said Mowbray. “What you’d also say about him is that he is absolutely devastating when we’re having to defend and he can break away, because he has a huge aerobic capacity to keep running.

“He was playing wing back before I got here because he can run all day and he can run fast all day, which is a huge attribute for any footballer. I don’t see him falling away, I think he’ll keep scoring and hurting teams.

“He is mixing his game up a lot more these days, going down the outside as well as cutting in, and cutting the ball back on his left foot. He has to stay positive, I hope he’s enjoying his football and hopefully the club does everything they can to keep him here and have a successful season.”
