Since joining Nottingham Forest in the summer, Nicolas Dominguez has been a standout player, but on Sunday, he did something incredibly out of character. Several players had a bad game as Liverpool smashed the Reds 3-0 at Anfield.
On the day of the transfer deadline from Bologna, the guy with eleven caps for Argentina checked in at the City Ground. Dominguez was a part of an agreement whereby Forest sent Remo Freuler on loan in exchange for paying a fee.
So far in his tenure at Forest, Dominguez has been playing excellently. But Steve Cooper acknowledged on Sunday that he had to adjust the player’s position, and it had no positive effects at all.
Forest star Dominguez didn’t start the game well at all. In fact, his first three pass attempts all went to Liverpool players. It was quite remarkable given that the player’s main strength since arriving has been his ability to keep the ball.
The 25-year-old did recover a little bit. He had a pass success ratio of 73.9%, having attempted 23 passes (who scored), and clearly those first three wayward ones had an impact on his numbers.
Dominguez is going to be so important for Forest
Despite an off-day at Anfield, there is no shame to be had for Dominguez, and he will soon shake this off. The player looks like an exciting addition to the ranks and he will continue to grow as the season progresses.
Since his arrival, Dominguez has mostly been a breath of fresh air. He’s adjusting just fine, having scored the goal that allowed the Reds to salvage a point against Brentford earlier this month.
He’s a good age of twenty-five, and Forest did well to lock him down to a long-term deal. His poor performance to begin the match against Liverpool will undoubtedly be remembered as a one-time incident, and hopefully he can move on.
