After Gareth Ainsworth was fired, QPR announced that Marti Cifuentes would take over as the team’s new head coach.
Rangers, who now sit second-bottom in the Sky Bet Championship, lost to leaders Leicester 2-1 at home on Saturday, their sixth straight league loss. Ainsworth left the team.
The 41-year-old Spaniard Cifuentes will leave Swedish top-tier team Hammarby, where he has spent the previous two seasons, upon his appointment, which is contingent upon obtaining a work permit.
“We are delighted to bring Marti in, and I would first like to thank Hammarby for being fantastic to deal with throughout the process,” QPR Chief Executive Lee Hoos stated on the club website.
“We are excited about Marti’s appointment and are eager to see what kind of impact he can make.”
