Boulaye Dia, a forward, is available for Wolverhampton Wanderers to pursue again in January, as Salernitana is open to hearing proposals for him.
Calciomercato, who suggests a move in the winter window “cannot be ruled out” at this stage, cites Il Mattino as their source.
At the close of the summer transfer window, Dia caught the attention of the Wolves, who made a late push to improve Gary O’Neill’s team by bidding for him in the final days before the deadline.
Salernitana turned down their proposition, stating they were not interested in it and going so far as to openly mock the Wolves’ offer.
The player eventually went on something of a strike, falling out with the Italian club over what had happened and his failed move to the Premier League.
He’s since returned and is establishing himself as a key player once again, but Il Mattino says a farewell in the January transfer window cannot be ruled out.
According to them, if the club were to receive a ‘convincing offer’ they would be more than happy to sell, although what figure they would consider convincing isn’t mentioned.
In the meantime, Torino’s president is in talks with the player and his agent to discuss potential changes to his contract and perhaps the re-inclusion of a €25 million release clause that expired in the summer.
That would then, presumably, be the figure everyone is looking at, and it’s debatable whether the Wolves would be able to afford such a figure given their difficult financial situation at present.
Nonetheless, it seems the opportunity may be there if they want to explore it, although O’Neill’s ability to get his forwards firing may mean a striker is no longer considered a priority target for the club.
