Carlos Corberan Makes ‘Amazing’ West Brom Admission With Mark Robins Message
Carlos Corberan gushes over Mark Robins as he looks to replicate him at West Brom
Carlos Corberan has been full of praise for Coventry City manager Mark Robins, who has been with the Sky Blues for almost seven years, and the West Brom boss admitted he is aiming to recreate that at The Hawthorns.
The Spaniard has claimed that, while he doesn’t tend to look beyond the next game, he believes that if he spends as much time at West Brom as Robins has at Coventry, they will be able to achieve “amazing things”.
Robins took over at Coventry in 2017 and has led the club to two promotions, and almost achieved a third last season as they fell to a defeat in the playoff final.
The boss spoke to the Express and Star ahead of the clash on 30 October when he stated: “My mind doesn’t work to this level. To make my mind work for the long term is impossible because I live with a lot of intensity in every single game. I like to be like this.
“It would be excellent news if I am in this club during that time, it would be that I have made amazing things here – and this is my full target of course. But my mind now is only thinking of Coventry, and then the next one, so I don’t have time.
“I only have time to reflect on what we have done and I know to make one year is a special day and not a normal thing. I remember the first day I signed here and at the stadium, I saw my name on the board, I saw the year and only wanted to see a different year after it.
“This is the best thing that you can give to clubs. Like you say we are only in clubs for a while when you bring something for the club and Mark has promoted from League One to Championship and has gone to the playoffs to promotion to the Premier League.
“He’s a very special manager, someone very calm, the image he gives is very calm but I know he has a lot of passion. I have a lot of respect for him as a person.”
Here’s to six more years
Corberan celebrated his one-year anniversary as West Brom manager last week and paid a touching tribute to the behind-the-scenes staff in a classy touch, but his mind is now on achieving more successful years at The Hawthorns.
Baggies fans will be hoping that the boss sticks around for as long as Robins has at Coventry, and the commitment and belief Corberan has shown during his spell at the club has been enough to convince fans he will be around for some time to come.
When the opportunity seemingly opened in the summer for him to leave for Leeds United, his continued commitment to the Baggies shone clear and gained the full trust of many Albion fans.
The focus, for now, will be on Coventry tonight and picking up yet another important three points in the Championship, and after that who knows how long his reign could last at The Hawthorns.
In other West Brom news, the club have received a new takeover boost.
