Bradford City awaits a new head coach, uncertainty is not Smallwood’s justification for leading the Bantams.

Bradford City is reportedly set to offer Dean Holden the opportunity to become the team’s new manager, succeeding Mark Hughes. The club has been without a full-time boss since parting ways with Hughes, with interim manager Kevin McDonald leading the team for a brief period.

While McDonald initially had some success, the team’s form took a downturn in subsequent matches.

Dean Holden: 'I would never have chosen this journey, but grief made me a better person and a better coach'

Former Charlton Athletic boss Dean Holden is among the candidates being considered for the vacant position at Bradford City.

Holden left Charlton Athletic in August, and a move to League Two appears to be on the horizon for him. Although Gillingham is also interested in Holden, they are considering former Aston Villa and Newcastle United coach Stephen Clemence for their managerial roles.

Bradford City’s decision to offer Dean Holden the managerial position may be a strategic move to fend off interest from other clubs. Grimsby Town is also searching for a new manager, so it is wise for Bradford to make a decision before other clubs consider Holden.

While Bradford City has had a disappointing start to the season, they are still within reach of a playoff position and have time to turn their fortunes around.
