Queens Park Rangers Make Immediate Decision To Replace Gareth Ainsworth After Identifiering Perfect Coach With Champions Good Record

Queens Park Rangers are set to name Neil Warnock as an immediate replacement for Gareth Ainsworth, who was sacked earlier tonight, according to The Telegraph.

Ainsworth departed Loftus Road this evening after a 2-1 defeat against Championship leaders Leicester City proved to be the final straw. Although it’s been a long time coming, the decision can perhaps be seen as somewhat harsh considering the London-based outfit were expected to find themselves on the end of a sixth successive defeat against the champions-elect.

The Hoops put in a brave display against the former Premier League champions and were only denied an unlikely point by a late Harry Winks winner – despite finding themselves down to 10 men when Andre Dozzell was dismissed shortly before the hour mark. However, the former Wycombe Wanderers boss has been on borrowed time and QPR currently find themselves sitting second from bottom in the table and six points from safety.

According to The Telegraph, Neil Warnock is set to take over the reins and will be offered a short-term contract until the end of the season. The 74-year-old is a free agent after departing Huddersfield Town earlier this season, but is said to be keen to return to the hotseat at Loftus Road.

According to the report, Nathan Jones is also keen on the position, but the decision has been made and an announcement is set to made within the next few days.

Warnock is no stranger to Queens Park Rangers and was in charge when they won promotion to the Premier League in 2011. He was sacked the following year but returned on a temporary basis in 2015 as caretaker manager following the sacking of Chris Ramsey.

The veteran boss could be appointed in time for next weekend’s crucial six-pointer against fellow strugglers Rotherham United.

If there is ever any manager you’d want to appoint when battling relegation, it’s Neil Warnock. He is a man who has a proven track record – both in the Premier League and the Championship – and is a smart choice for QPR.

Desperate times call for desperate measures and although this afternoon’s clash with Leicester was almost seen as a free hit, it makes sense to make the change ahead of a fixture against Rotherham – a team in which they are more than capable of getting a result.
