Ruben Selles has clarified his own standpoint regarding Reading FC’s struggles this season, “I can stop Reading FC rut by actioning one thing immediately.”

Reading manager Ruben Selles has addressed the challenging situation at the Select Car Leasing Stadium, as the club faces difficulties both on and off the field at the start of the 2023/24 season.

Off-field matters are currently beyond the control of the players and the manager, with the club’s owner, Dai Yongge, being the only one capable of improving the situation by selling the club. It’s evident that Selles’ time at the Select Car Leasing Stadium has reached its conclusion, marked by his troubled six-year tenure and recent financial troubles, which have led to fan dissatisfaction.

The fanbase’s discontent isn’t solely due to financial and ownership issues; it also stems from poor on-field results. While the club’s future remains uncertain, many supporters have used the matches as an escape from not only the club’s financial problems but also the challenges of everyday life.

Regrettably, results have been dismal in recent times, with Reading failing to secure a league victory since mid-September. Additionally, they suffered a four-point deduction earlier in the season due to financial irregularities, leaving them eight points adrift of safety.

What needs to change at Reading to improve results? Despite having a reasonably inexperienced squad, there are seasoned players such as David Button, Harlee Dean, and Lewis Wing, who are more than capable of performing at this level.

It’s evident that they should be performing better in the league, even taking their deductions into account.

Manager Ruben Selles had initially received some leniency from fans due to the club’s off-field problems. However, his reluctance to deviate from his 4-2-2-2 system has frustrated many supporters. Following their 2-1 loss against Fleetwood Town, the former Southampton boss even faced chants of “you’re getting sacked in the morning.”

While the 4-2-2-2 system had shown promise earlier in the season against Cheltenham Town, it also has its weaknesses.

Reading are currently in a hideous situation, both on and off the pitch.

The off-field situation is currently out of the players’ and manager’s hands, with only owner Dai Yongge able to make things better away from the pitch by selling the club.

It’s clear that his time at the Select Car Leasing Stadium has come to an end, with his torrid six-year spell and recent liquidity problems sparking fan unrest.

But their fanbase isn’t unhappy just because of their financial and ownership issues, they are also unhappy because of results on the pitch.

Although their results may seem insignificant considering the future of the club is in doubt, many supporters have used their games as an escape, not just from the club’s financial problems but also from the realities of life.

Unfortunately, results have been miserable in recent times, with the Royals failing to pick up a league win since mid-September.

Thanks to their poor form, as well as the four points they had deducted earlier this season due to financial misdemeanours, they are currently eight points adrift of safety.
