Celtic has been fined €23,500 by UEFA for their conduct during the match against Lazio, and this penalty comes on top of a previous fine for a similar incident involving fireworks during an away game against Feyenoord.
In the recent Champions League fixture against Feyenoord at De Kuip, Celtic was fined €23,400 for the use of flares. UEFA has now also imposed sanctions on the Scottish Premiership champions for both their use of pyrotechnics and an “offensive” banner display that occurred before their 2-1 defeat to Italian club Lazio. The fine is divided into €3,500 for the use of fireworks and €20,000 for the banner revealed by the Green Brigade.
Before the Lazio match at Celtic Park, the club had appealed to their fans not to use pyrotechnics due to the increasing fines being imposed. Over the past decade, Celtic, like many other clubs across Europe, has faced multiple fines totaling over £250,000 for incidents involving pyrotechnics and banners.
