Although Darren Moore needs additions to his team, the major problems facing Huddersfield Town cannot wait that long.

With a few first-team injuries right now, Darren Moore has an extremely difficult assignment ahead of him as he tries to find a way to generate greater consistency and cohesive performances out of a very small Terriers squad. However, the 2-1 victory against QPR and the four-goal loss to Cardiff City both brought up problems that will not go away until the January transfer window.

In-depth discussions regarding both matches and Town’s overall problems were held by Opta analyst David Hartrick and our own Steven Chicken in the most recent Huddersfield Town podcast, Ooh To Be A Terrier.

What follows is a transcript of the discussion we had on the topic. You can subscribe to the podcast via Apple Podcasts, on Spotify, or wherever you get your podcasts by searching for “Ooh To Be A Terrier” – or click here to listen to or download the latest episode directly.

Darren Moore issues defiant Huddersfield Town rallying cry as focus turns to Leeds United

Hartrick: “There’s a hell of a lot of unknowns at the moment with this Town side but the one thing we do know is a lot of the things we said in the summer are exactly true now and they’ve got to address that in the January transfer window.

“Neither of us are particularly transfer people who want to fix every problem with new players every transfer window, as some people are – but this time, I do think they have to bring some people in. So Darren Moore’s job is effectively ‘take as many points as you can till we get to January, then we can do some work on the squad and it’s a different challenge after that.’

Chicken: “We’ve actually been saying that since September. The club admits that they didn’t do all of the work they intended to throughout the summer, but I believe they have cause to hope that things will be different for them come January. They’re undoubtedly already making efforts in that direction.

When it comes to evaluating Darren Moore’s work, in particular, I believe there is a consensus inside the team that he has been given a challenging roster to manage—one that does require certain additions.
