Kristjaan Speakman was asked directly about the transfer future of winger Jack Clarke earlier this week.
Sunderland’s Director of Sports, Kristjaan Speakman, was recently questioned about the future transfer prospects of winger Jack Clarke earlier this week.
The 22-year-old winger, who tallied nine goals and provided 13 assists in the Championship last season, saw Sunderland’s playoff journey end with a defeat against Luton Town over two legs. Clarke has maintained his impressive performance into the current campaign, already registering seven goals.
Last summer, Burnley reportedly made multiple bids for Clarke, but all were turned down by Sunderland. The club appears interested in securing Clarke with a new contract. Additionally, teams like Brentford, Brighton, and Crystal Palace have expressed their interest in the former Leeds United and Tottenham attacker.
During a recent fan collective meeting with club representatives Steve Davison and David Bruce, Speakman was asked if Sunderland would entertain a £20 million offer for Clarke. In response, Speakman emphasized the need to make decisions that are in the best interest of the club when considering any offers. He also discussed the sale of Ross Stewart to Southampton last summer, stating that it was the right decision due to Stewart’s injury issues and limited game time, along with a compelling offer.
Speakman was also questioned about Sunderland’s co-owner, Kyril Louis-Dreyfus, and the possibility of external investment in case of promotion to the Premier League through the sale of shares. He clarified that Louis-Dreyfus is not actively seeking to sell shares but is open to the club’s progression, even if it involves outside investment. This statement garnered applause from those present at the meeting.
