Championship team of the week dominated by West Brom, Middlesbrough, Cardiff City, Hull City, Plymouth Argyle and Rotherham United – gallery
Here’s how the Sky Bet Championship team of the week shapes up for the fixtures played on October 24 and October 25.
League football resumed last weekend following the international break, and with it came the resumption of the Sky Bet Championship with a series of matchups in midweek.
West Brom defeated struggling QPR after coming back from a goalless draw with Plymouth Argyle. After Jimmy Dunne was sent off for the foul, Grady Diangana sealed the victory for the Baggies with a goal in the 59th minute from Brandon Thomas-Asante. The team won 2-0 at The Hawthorn’s.
Now ranked sixth in the league, Carlos Corberan’s team leads Hull City and Cardiff City on goal differential. In contrast, QPR is currently in second place, has only gained eight points so far this season, and hasn’t won since September.
In other Championship action, Ched Evans’ own goal in front of the Sky Sports television cameras resulted in a 2-2 draw between Southampton and Preston North End. Leeds United suffered a costly loss against Stoke City due to an own goal by Patrick Struijk after Patrick Bamford missed a penalty.
The biggest victors were Cardiff City, who defeated Darren Moore’s former team, Huddersfield Town, 4-1, while his former team, Sheffield Wednesday, fell short against Plymouth Argyle, 3-0. Rotherham United surprised Coventry City by winning 2-0 at the New York Stadium, while league leaders Leicester City defeated Sunderland 1-0.
A squad of eleven players has been announced as the team of the midweek after many players showed promise on Tuesday and Wednesday.
