According to reports, Sunderland is now desperate to sign a new contract with the “unplayable” £17k-per-week star.

Jack Clarke is keen to sign a new deal with Sunderland.

This is in line with the Sunderland Echo’s story, which states that the Black Cats will exert significant effort to stave off Premier League interest.
Following a turbulent loan stint in League One, Jack Clarke became the highest paid member of the team last summer when he decided to make Wearside his permanent home.

After leaving Tottenham Hotspur, the “unplayable” winger has advanced significantly. He finished the previous season with nine goals and twelve assists before having an incredible start to the current one.

This time around, Clarke has scored eight goals in 13 games, which has drawn interest from teams like Brentford, Crystal Palace, and Burnley.

In the summer, Sunderland rejected proposals worth about £10 million for the Clarets; however, if he continues to play this well, they should expect to get larger bids.

Although it was anticipated that Sunderland would find it difficult to turn down an eight-figure offer, the Echo now state they will try to offer him new terms in an effort to keep him at the Stadium of Light.

Clarke has also acknowledged that he is genuinely hoping for promotion with Sunderland this year, and that his future with the team may depend on where they finish in the English football league.

Was Sunderland able to function without Jack Clarke?
At Sunderland right now, Jack Clarke is the key player, and it is difficult to imagine us moving up the ladder without him.

If he were to depart during the January transfer window, we would be in serious danger, and it would be difficult to find a suitable replacement come summertime as well.

Though it pleases me to hear that we are keen to extend an offer to him, I wouldn’t have been shocked if the Black Cats had decided to cash in at the end of the campaign.

Our time in the Premier League will undoubtedly arrive sooner rather than later if Sunderland can (finally) retain Patrick Roberts and bring that prolific goalscorer up top during the next two windows.
