27-year-old Portsmouth’s star hopes to play against Cambridge United again..

According to Andrew Moon, Portsmouth manager John Mousinho is hoping Gavin Whyte can make a comeback this evening.
In their most recent League One match against Carlisle United, Portsmouth was without the winger. Due to illness, he is unable to participate in the 1-0 victory over the Cumbrians.

The 27-year-old Whyte was able to relocate to Fratton Park over the summer. Since then, he has participated in 13 different events.

John Mousinho is hoping that he will be able to rejoin the team for the away game against Cambridge United, as reported by BBC correspondent Moon on X (see tweet below). He now has more recent injury concerns.

Portsmouth on the up

Having Whyte back will be a boost for Pompey. He provides more competition and depth to their options on the wing.

The Northern Ireland international, who has 30 caps under his belt so far, is under contract until 2026.

He moved over to England in 2018 as a youngster from Crusaders and he spent a year at Oxford United in the third tier before Cardiff City handed him a move to the Championship.
Whyte spent four years on the books of the Bluebirds and went on to play 37 games altogether for the Welsh outfit, chipping in with a single goal.

He also had loan spells away at Hull City and former club Oxford to get some game time under his belt. The Belfast-born man became a free agent in June but was swiftly snapped up by Mousinho.

Pompey have made an impressive start to the new campaign and sit top of the table. They haven’t lost yet this term and have picked up 31 points from 13 matches.

Mousinho’s men take on a Cambridge side tonight who are in 18th position, seven points above the drop zone.
