Defender Lewis Gibson returns to the Plymouth Argyle squad for the away Championship match against West Bromwich Albion at The Hawthorns tomorrow after missing the last three matches with a foot injury.

There has also been some positive news for the Pilgrims over attacking midfielder Callum Wright, who is ahead of schedule in his recovery from a knee ligament strain although it will be a little while yet before he is ready to play again.

Gibson, the 23-year-old summer signing from Everton, impressed as he started Argyle’s first eight Championship games this term, even though he played for a while with a sore foot.

That eventually forced him to miss the 1-1 draw away to Hull City on September 30, as well as the back-to-back home defeats by Millwall (2-0) and Swansea City (3-1).

The two-week international break since the game against Swansea has given Gibson the chance to get back into full training with the rest of the squad.

Wright suffered his knee ligament strain in the 4-1 defeat away to Bristol City on September 19. Manager Steven Schumacher said: “He’s coming on well, he’s probably ahead of schedule.

“He has stepped up his rehab with the physios. I think the plan will be to get him back on the grass within the next couple of weeks and get him available again so that’s pleasing.”

Argyle captain Joe Edwards had a ‘stiff knee’ after Swansea according to Schumacher but has trained this week, while defender Brendan Galloway is continuing his recovery from a hamstring injury. “He’s back on the grass stepping up his rehab, which is good,” said the Pilgrims’ boss.
